Data Communication Technology

As the Internet has grown popular, many media-rich contents such as movie deliveries and network games have become widely provided. It is necessary to develop novel data communication technologies for realizing efficient broadband data transfer. This course discusses multicast-type data communication services. The topic examples are shown as follows:

1．	IP multicast This chapter discusses IP multicast, a conventional network-layer technology to realize simultaneous transmissive communication over the Internet.
2．	Overlay multicast Application-level multicast and peer-to-peer streaming are well known as overlay multicast. This chapter discusses the logical overlay multicast technology as an alternative for IP multicast.
3．	Pseudo multicast The above technologies can be used only by multicast applications that are designed to correspond with multicast. This chapter discusses a novel pseudo multicast technology that realizes multicast-like data transmission for non-multicast applications.
