In this lecture, the principle of the space configuration seen in vernacular dwellings and villages is described around the case of Southeast Asia. In Chapter 1, to understand the living culture of Asia relatively, some cases of the Mediterranean coast that is the arid region are taken up. And the antithesis of the constituting principle of the outside garden type dwelling in Asia is described. In Chapter 2, it lectures on the living culture of Southeast Asia separately for two typical types which are about the scorch field in the mountainous district and about the paddy field in the plain and the islands region. The background of the former is a strong patrilineal family-line society, and the latter is an ambilineal family-line society. Chapter 3 takes up the case of China, South Korea, and Japan, and describes the common feature and the difference with the living culture of Southeast Asia.
