授業の概要

This course aims to develop listening skills by practicing different types of listening techniques: listening for specific information, listening for general ideas, and listening to understand inferences. Some phonetic aspects also will be covered to reinforce students’ understanding of English. Speaking activities should be included to help students’ communicative skills. Although this course is not designed as a preparation course for TOEIC, a TOEIC workbook will be used as a supplemental material （homework assignment）so that students can obtain higher scores on the TOEIC Bridge test given as the final test of L&S at the end of the term.
Preview of a unit is assigned as homework every week. A small quiz is given at the beginning of each class meeting.

英語基底科目Listening & Speaking(以下L&S)は今後の上達科目履修をより効果的にするための英語基礎能力を養うことを目的とする。L&Sでは、特に、下記の達成目標を念頭に、さまざまな状況における会話・アナウンスメントなどを通し聴解力の向上を図る。また、音変化などの発音にも触れ、英語の音に慣れる練習も行う。学期を通してスピーキング・アクティビティも行い、音声によるコミュニケーション能力を伸ばす。このコースは試験対策コースではないが、TOEIC BridgeからTOEICに進んでいけることも念頭に、TOEIC形式の問題集をサブ教材として使用し、毎週２ユニットが宿題として出され、そのスコアが成績に算入される。また、各授業のはじめには単語小テストが行われる。

達成目標

1.Students will increase their vocabulary related to the topics covered and be able to understand the words aurally and use in simple conversations. 題材に関連した語彙を増やす。各ユニットの単語を聞き取ることができる、また簡単な会話で使うことができる。
2.Students will learn listening techniques: listening for the main ideas, listening for specific information, and understanding inferences. 情報の収集・概要把握・推測の活用などのリスニング・テクニックを活用できる。
3.Students will learn some phonetic aspects of English to improve listening abilities. 音変化などを知ることで聞き取る力をつける。
4.Students will acquire basic grammar through listening and speaking activities.
リスニング/スピーキングのアクティビティを通して基礎的な文法力を身につける。

授業点（30%）と学期末に受けるTOEIC Bridge（Listening section)スコア（70%）の合計で最終成績が６０％以上を認定とする。

履修前の準備

授業以外での予習・復習時間数が成功(認定）のキーとなりますので、単語を確実に覚える、付属CDを繰り返し聴くなど、しっかり学習する心構えが履修前の準備といえます。また、英英辞書を準備しておくことを勧めます（多くの電子辞書に入っています）。
