授業の教育目的及び方針
Gender and Sexuality: Defining our Roles in Society
This course will examine the ways in which both men and women develop their own sexual identities based on the membership of a given society. We will also consider the sexual role changes in Western history, and further evaluate the differences in our own sexual identities from various cultural perspectives. Discussions revolving around how the media often influences our perception of gender-related behavior and socially-accepted expressions will be part of this course.
授業内容
Media plays an integral role in how we perceive our own sexual identities in society. Edited video or films will be viewed in class, and we will review the film’s situational dialogues between male/females actors. We can further evaluate gender-related behavior and expressions that are stereotypically viewed by males and females within society through class discussions. Finally, we will look at the differences in how men and women converse with each other, and the common subject matters discussed among their own sexes. Short questionnaire exercises and role-playing situations will be part of the learning experience.
評価方法
Grading will be based on class attendance, active class participation, homework and short assignments. There are no exams.
教科書
Text will not be required. Copies of required readings that include a vocabulary list and discussion questions will be provided one week in advance.
