This class is designed to improve your English proficiency, focusing on fluency in reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as critical awareness towards current global issues. In addition, you will have opportunities to learn language learning techniques from the instructor and classmates.
We will be learning about and discussing current local and global socio-political issues such as world poverty, international development, peace, human right, environment, languages and most importantly, possible actions to solve them. The class content will be negotiated and tailored to students’ specific needs and interests. You are encouraged to voice your thoughts on how the class should be run through on-going class evaluations. Class activities include reading about the issues, DVD/video analysis, reaction freewriting journals, group discussion, and guest speaker sessions.
You will be graded based on the following points: class participation, assignments, quizzes, and writing journals.
