Course content

The lectures will provide an introduction to building construction system and construction technologies in Japan. In the lecture on the introduction to building construction system, basic matters and knowledge of building construction systems and building projects in Japan will be taught. In the lecture on construction system by building and construction rationalization technologies, advanced examples of building construction systems in various building construction projects in Japan and rationalization techniques for industrialized, automated and computerized building construction systems will be taught.

Purpose of class

Understand the basic concept and methodologies to establish building construction system and construction technologies in Japan and acquire the knowledge to make use of these to gain more in-depth professional knowledge and skills related to building construction system and construction technologies in current building construction projects in Japan.

Goals and objectives

1.Be able to understand the building construction process and technologies involved and the social framework for realizing this from a general perspective.
2.Through actual examples of building-based construction systems, be able to understand basic knowledge on the management of construction rationalization techniques and technologies in current building construction projects.
3.Be able to understand R&D system for construction technologies in Japan

Evaluation method and criteria

Overall evaluation to be based on 5 mini-assignment reports (about 10% of the evaluation score each), and final assignment report (about 50% of the evaluation score).

Textbooks and reference materials

No textbooks will be used but printouts of the lecture materials will be distributed.

Prerequisites

It is desirable to look through newest CSR reports of Japanese general contractors to understand their current activities.

Office hours

Questionss are accepted before and after lectures as needed.
