Course description
Music is ubiquitous in our lives, but is rarely viewed from technology and management perspective.
We will study music industry as a whole from the past to present, and to the future.
From the basics of sound and music, history of the music and mankind to the music business development and related technologies, we will learn and discuss about the past and current industry landscape and future possibilities.
Purpose of class
To understand the music industry which has broad business area including hardware and software.
Through understanding the music industry from birds-eye view, learners will develop the wide viewpoint and be able to extend the knowledge to any other industry.
Goals and objectives
  1. Understand the basic principle of sound and music and its value in human society.
    Understand the history of music industry from technology and management point of view.
  2. Capture the whole music industry in global scale and envision future development of the industry.
