Course content
Sensor corresponds to a sense organ of a living thing. Sensor as an artificial sense organ, is built into a variety of electronics equipment, and is used for getting outer and inner information of us. The information is useful for our safe and convenient life.
In this course, we touch and discuss latest sensing technology and its application.
Purpose of class
The aim of this class is
- understanding importance of sensor technology
- acquiring knowledge about realizing a practical sensor system
Goals and objectives
  1. To understand operational principle of sensors
  2. To learn the multi-sensor signal processing in order to fusion of sensor data
  3. To understand biomimetic technology in sensor engineering field

5. Sensing system
- about composition of sensing system
Check and summarise fundamental components in sensing system. 90minutes
6. Measurement circuit for sensing system1
- circuit around sensor device
- amplifier
- filter
Check and summarise about operational amplifier, passive and active filter. 90minutes
7. Measurement circuit for sensing system2
- about circuit for signal converter (current - voltage, resistance(capacitance) - voltage, etc...)
- about circuit for signal processing (linearizer, logarithmic compression circuit, etc...)
Check and summarise about signal converter (current - voltage, resistance - voltage, capacitance - voltage, frequency - voltage)
And, check and summarise about linearize technique of sensor response property.

- about temperature sensor, thermistor
- measurement circuit design for thermistor
Check and summarise about temperature sensor, especially themistor and its application. 90minutes
9. Practice using sensor 1-2 (thermistor)
- making measurement circuit for thermistor and its operation check
Prepare circuit diagram which is designed measurement circuit in 8th week. 90minutes
10. Practice using sensor 1-3 (thermistor)
- temperature measurement using thermistor
- analyzing measured data based on response model of heat propagation (1st report)
Prepare the processing procedure for conversion from sensor output to temperature value. 90minutes
Read the refference about analysis method of measured data of thermistor transient response. 90minutes
Summarize measured data and make your report for the temperature experiments using themistor 120minutes
11. Artificial Neural Network (ANN)

Check and summarise about sensor data fusion technique.
And also check and summarise about machine learning, especially, Artificial Neural Network tehcnique.

12. Artificial Neural Network
- about learning algorithm, Error back-propagation learning algorithm
Check and summarise about learning algorithm for ANN. 90minutes
13. Practice using sensor 2-1 (gas sensor)
- about gas sensor, metal semiconductor gas sensor
- measurement circuit design for gas sensor
Check and summarise about metal semiconductor gas senssor and the fundamental measurement circuit for the sensor. 90minutes
Summarise the data for operation check of fabricated measurement circuit. 120minutes
14. Practice using sensor 2-2 (gas sensor)
- making measurement circuit for gas sensor and its operation check
Check and summarise about pattern recogntion processing using ANN in multi sensor system. 90minutes
Summarise measured data and make your report for gas sensing using semiconductor gas sensors 120minutes
