Course content
Recently, various advanced materials have been applied to the machines and structures. Moreover, the reliability of machines and structures should be kept in high level. In this course, focusing on some advanced materials and structures, the fundamentals related to the strength estimation and damage mechanism will be explained. Also, the damage sensing and evaluation technologies used for maintaining the reliability in higher level will be explained.
Purpose of class
The aim of this course is to acquire basic knowledge on the strength evaluation methods, the damage mechanisms and the damage detection technologies for maintaining the reliability of advanced materials and structures in higher level.
Goals and objectives
  1. To understand the strength evaluation methods for advanced materials and structures.
  2. To understand the damage mechanisms for advanced materials and structures.
  3. To understand the damage detection technologies and apply those to the reliability evaluation of advanced materials and structures.

Evaluation method and criteria
Students will be comprehensively evaluated based on reports during classes (50%) and final reports (50%). The details will be explained during the first class.
