Course content
In japan, 60% of total power consumption is concumed by electical motors. Accordingly high efficiency is highly required for the motors. Currently various apparatuses motoried, for example electric vehicles.
This course will explain a design method for highly efficience and high performance parmanent magnet motors (PM motors) in detail.
Purpose of class
To master the design method of PM motors, the following theory have to be comprehended: (1) The energy conversion between electrical and mechanical energy. (2) Mahematical model of the motors. (3) Design of armature winding. (4) Characteristics of parmanent magnets. (5) Design of rotors.
The aim of this course is to acquire a design method of PM motors by learning the above mentioned (1) -(5).
Goals and objectives
  1. Understanding the energy conversion between electrical and mechanical energy.
  2. Understanding the matnematical model of PM motors, and designing armature windings.
  3. Understanding characteristics of parmanent magnet, and designing parmanent magnet shape.
  4. Calculating the torque characteristic of the designed PM motor using the mathematical model.

Evaluation method and criteria
There will three reports and an integrated study: Repoert 1 (20%), Report 2 (20%), Report 3 (20%), Integrated study (40%). The final grade will be determined by total amount of points obtained according to the follows scale: S: 90-100, A: 80-89, B: 70-79, C: 60-69, D:50-59, F: 0-49. To pass, students must earn at least 60 points out of 100.

The original materials in the class will be given.
