Advanced Research Program on Urban Engineering for Disaster Mitigation
A safety environment secures an affluent and comfortable life for humankind.
In the present age, science and technology are highly developed. However, we are always exposed to a menace of natural phenomena.
The security of human body and the creation of a type of society which imposes little damage on the environment are also
important issues. In particular, reducing earthquake damage to buildings is a priority issue.
In this course students make a study of protection against disasters during an earthquake in order to create a type of safety
environment.
The themes of a research are as follows.
1.Assessment methods which will form the basis for judging the seismic damage level for buildings and cities.
2.Seismic retrofitting of reinforced concrete structures.
3.A deterioration mechanism and countermeasure of concrete structures.
4.Nondestructive testing method for quality of concrete in concrete structures.
- It is possible to evaluate the earthquake resistance performance of buildings.
1. Seismic diagnosis method of building with reinforced concrete structure, and elasto-plasticity analysis of framework on
real building.
2. Experiments on deterioration mechanism of concrete materials are conducted and the validity of the past evaluation method
is examined.
Evaluation method and criteria
Students are evaluated on the contents of experimental reports for each theme. Level of completion of 80% for an experimental
report will be required to pass.
