Bioinspired Material Chemistry
Life is supported by various molecular machines possessing extremely clever mechanisms which have been improved through natural
selection over a 4 billion year process of evolution. In this course, students will learn about the structure and mechanisms
of molecular machines within living organisms, and will build strategies to apply this knowledge about molecular machines
for designing new materials. Specifically, the following kinds of molecular machines will be raised for discussion:
1. Photosynthetic reaction centers
2. Ionic channels
3. Molecular motors
4. Perception sensors
Students will learn about the structure and mechanisms of molecular machines within living organisms, and will build strategies
to apply this knowledge about molecular machines for designing new materials.
