Course content
This course will overview and review the city planning policies in Japan to respond to changes of the society caused by population and economic growth and urban sprawl. We will discuss the future planning policies to achieve lower environmental impacts and sustainable growth with a decreasing population.
Purpose of class
The aim of the class is to understand the city planning system in Japan after the World War 2 and the social conditions at that time especially the new trend of city planning in Tokyo after the year of 2000.
Goals and objectives
  1. To be able to understand the city planning system in Japan after the World War 2 and the social conditions at that time
  2. To be able to understand the new trend of city planning in Tokyo after the year of 2000.
  3. To be able to have the principles as a city planner or an urban architect.

The course will be weighted as follows: Report(50%) , Presentation(50%).
In order to pass, students must earn at least 60 of the 100 points.
