Materials design research/ Exercise 1
The aim of this course is to provide a basic understanding of the underlying principles that determine the evolution of microstructures
in non-ferrous metallic materials during their processing and its relation with its properties and performance in service.
Attempts will be made to introduce the concept of thermodynamics and kinetics of phase transformation, micro-structural engineering,
alloy design, processing (casing, forming and heat treatment) techniques, and structure property relationship.
- Understanding the fundamental knowledge and its applications of non-ferrous materials.
- Understanding the relationship between physicochemical properties and microstructure of non-ferrous materials.
- Ability to identify crucial problem areas in manufacture and applications of non-ferrous materials.

Evaluation method and criteria
Monthly report (40%) and motivation and research output (60%) for a total possible score of 100 points.
A total score of 60 points of higher will be required to pass.
