Course description
Ceramic materials have been widely used as a ceramic product conventionally. However, in the past ten years, rapid material development and innovative research and development especially the electrical and electronics industry is carried out. "Functional ceramic materials (new ceramics and fine ceramics)" is added many new features, their use and demand has attracted attention as a new material extending dramatically.
This lecture is to learn the manufacturing methods, especially sintering method, which are intimately related to high functional properties of ceramic materials. Moreover, this lecture aims to understand structure and functional properties of ceramic materials. In particular, this lecture is to clarify the high functional properties of ceramic materials such as thermal, mechanical, biological and chemical, electrical and electronic, magnetic, and optical properties.
Attainment target:
Ceramic materials have been related to dramatic development in advanced industries and high technology, and necessary in the field of electronic and magnetic materials and ICT society. Then, this lecture aims to understand ceramic materials, in addition to “Ceramics A”, of which the types of manufacturing methods, material properties, and applications and practical use.
Purpose of class
Ceramic materials have many high functional properties not shared by metal and organic materials. This lecture aims to understand the types of manufacturing methods of ceramic materials, especially sintering method. Then, it is intended to understand the characteristic properties of ceramic materials, such as thermal, biological and chemical, electrical and electronic, magnetic, and optical properties. In addition, it is also intended to learn applications and practical use of ceramic materials.
Goals and objectives
  1. Understand and learn the manufacturing method, especially sintering method, of new ceramic materials.
  2. Understand and learn the material properties, especially heat resistance and high-strength properties, of new ceramic materials.
  3. Understand and learn the function properties, especially electronic, dielectric, and magnetic properties, of new ceramic materials.
  4. Understand and acquire advanced functional characteristics and application fields of new ceramic materials.
