Course description
All machines, devices and structures with moving parts have definitely proper mechanisms. This course deals with the systems and functions of major machine elements (gear wheels, cams and links, etc.). Moreover, it covers the motions produced by combining machine elements and the analytical methods for those motions. This course is carried out using video movies of machine elements and exercises arranged for the class contents effectively.
Purpose of class
The first aim of this course is to develop the abilities for analyzing the machine motions produced by machine elements and for designing the mechanisms for the provided motions. The second aim is to acquire the basic drafting skills for major machine elements.
Goals and objectives
  1. To understand the basic systems and functions of machine elements.
  2. To evaluate the parameters for the motions of mechanisms.
  3. To evaluate the parameters for the performances of machine elements.
  4. To design the mechanisms or machine elements for the provided motions.

Evaluation method and criteria
Students will be comprehensively evaluated based on midterm examination (30%), final examination (30%), reports during classes (30%) and level of drawing (10%).
