Course description
All machines consist of various machine elements. However, in order to design a machine as a mechanical engineer, it is important to understand mechanism and function of machine elements.
In this lecture, we will take ball bearings, shaft couplings, bolted joints etc. as a mechanical element used in many machines and give lectures on their strength, function and mechanism.
Purpose of class
Mechanical engineers need to understand not only the name, strength, function and mechanism of mechanical elements such as bearings, shaft couplings, bolted joints, but also how to use and applications thereof. In this lecture, we aim to be able to design machine elements such as bearings, shaft couplings and bolted joints by understanding the functions rhereof.
Goals and objectives
  1. to be able to explain the kinds, functions, strength of screw thread.
  2. From the external force acting on the bolted joint, the internal force acting on the bolt can be calculated and the bolted joints can be designed.
  3. to be able to explains the principle and characteristics about the kind, function and strength of shaft coupling.
  4. To be able to select the bearing suitable for the use environment.
  5. To be able to understand and explain the types and functions of sealing elements.
