Course description
Industrial products integrate and utilize many disciplines, knowledge and experience, and are given shape and function. Plastic processing is a processing method mainly by applying plastic deformation to metal materials to make the required products. In the process of manufacturing industrial products today plastic working plays an important role in a wide range from materials to products. Many plastic working methods have been developed and utilized according to the purpose. In addition, the technology of tissue control of materials utilizing plastic working has also developed. In recent years, it is also important as an academic field so that attempts are made to improve the performance and characteristics of metal materials using plastic working. In order to understand plastic working, it is important to know the metallographic structure and basic mechanical properties. It is also one role of plastic working to select the rationality of shape and the material to be applied.
In this class, we will acquire the basic knowledge related to plastic processing, understand the importance of manufacturing, and advance classes while confirming the basic knowledge concerning monozukuri. In this class, we confirm level of proficiency through question and task, and understand the role of plastic processing.
Purpose of class
In this class, we select rolling, extrusion, forging and casting as primary processing, from a wide range of plasticity processing methods, and understand the method and its role in material production. As secondary processing, press working and shearing processing are explained as examples, materials related to processing, changes of microstructure and cost are explained, from material production to industrial products, and understanding on plastic processing is deepened in cooperation with material strength and crystalline strucuture studies. Since industrial products are used as various members, we deepen their understanding of safety (damage tolerance design) of materials and fundamental material mechanics within this class.
Goals and objectives
  1. Relationship between manufacturing and plastic processing of industrial products, mechanical parts, industrial materials, it is possible to understand the characteristics of various processing methods.
  2. It is possible to understand the method of plastic working and its characteristics of the metal material for plastic working.
