Course description
Messing up your room is easy, but cleaning your room is troublesome. You can enjoy white coffee after black coffee, but the order cannot be changed without ordering another cup. Like that, direction of the change is fixed. Free energy and entropy are important factors to describe the direction of change and to understand thermodynamics.
Purpose of class
Understanding the definition, utility, and essence of free energy are aimed as well as understanding phase equilibrium and chemical equilibrium.
Goals and objectives
  1. You understand reversible and irreversible processes.
  2. You understand the meanings of entropy, enthalpy, free energy, chemical potential.
  3. You can elucidate phase equilibrium and chemical equilibrium based on understanding of free energy.
Language
Japanese(English accepted)
