Course description
The course is a series lecture on 20th century modern and contemporary architecture in Europe, the U.S., and Japan. Many picture slides of examples will be used for understanding modern and contemporary architecture.
Purpose of class
The knowledge on 20th century architecture is quite necessary for the contemporary architects and urban designers while they try to understand the present condition of buildings and cities. Through the course students are expected to acquire the basic knowledge and view on the subject.
Goals and objectives
  1. The goals of this course are to
    Acquire and deepen the knowledge on the theory and history of modern architecture from which the contemporary architecture is derived.
  2. Acquire the knowledge and the view on the social, cultural, industrial and technological background of the modern and contemporary architecture and urbanism.
  3. Acquire and develop the view from the point of “built-environment” on architecture and urbanism in the future.
