Course content
This course will study the structure of materials and energy metabolism in cities.
1.Basics of urban environmental systems
2.Flow of natural water, matter, and energy
3.Flow of water, matter, and energy mediated by social infrastructure system
4.Various environmental problems and control of urban environment
5.Experiments with comparative urban theory
Purpose of class
The purpose of the class is to learn urban environment as a natural and infrastructural systems of water, energy, and matter flows.

  1. The main objective is to learn how to analize the urban environment as a flow system of water, energy, and matter.
  2. The history of urban environmental problems in Japan.
  3. The systematic methods how to solve urban environmental problems.
