Course content
A lot of communities and cities in Japan and across the globe are exposed to the risk of disasters. In this course, each student will be requested to set an individual research theme, and will pursue its research by conducting surveys and analysis in the research field. It is important that students have a clear awareness of issues, and to establish firm research methods.

Research projects focus on multidisciplinary studies across architectural, environmental, social and urban engineering fields with an emphasis on how to realize safe, resilient, diverse and vibrant communities and cities.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students will learn the basic concept of planning for urban and regional resilience.
  2. Students will learn about the technical analysis and integration methods of planning for urban and regional resilience.
  3. Students will learn about the strategies of planning for urban and regional resilience.

Class schedule
Each student will be requested to set an individual research theme, and will pursue its research by conducting surveys and analysis in the research field.
Evaluation method and criteria
Students will be evaluated not only on final research results, but on intermediate stage results and on amount of works conducted. Presentations will also be evaluated.

References are shown as needed each time.
Prerequisites
It would be ideal for students to visit several types of urban and rural areas.

Applicatable Based on the work experience in the field of Urban and Regional Planning, the basic concept, technical analysis and integration methods in relation to planning for urban and regional resilience can be taught.
