    都市および地域において、人間活動の環境改善に資する空間設計の研究を行う。
    そのためにはまず都市空間をよく観察し、記録し、改善の方策を検討する必要がある。その際には個人の独善に陥らず、地域の自然環境、地形、歴史、文化、産業などを理解するとともに、地域住民や事業者、行政などの意向を把握する必要がある。
    「カタチ」のデザインに至るプロセスや空間のマネジメント方策を重視し、対象地域の関係者と協働で取り組む。
