Outline of Architectural Design Practice

Course content
Leading practitioners on the front line will lead the course with site visits and lectures, focusing on relevant subjects such as the role of architects, planning, legal system, design, contract, structural planning, facility planning, administrative management, cost control, bidding procedure, landscape design, as well as the latest topics such as ISO, LC, CM, VE, FM and the Architects Qualification System. Graduate students from 4 universities (Kogakuin University, Tokyo City University, Tokyo Denki University and our own Shibaura Institute of Technology) will participate in this program. Each university is to select 10 students for the program. Participating students are to work together in creating resumes, records and lecture minutes as well as arranging procedures and lecturers’ schedules.
Planned course date: 5 days (Monday to Friday), sometime during the end of July/early August
Purpose of class
To acquire the ability to think the architectural design as being generated by many practical factors by experience of real projects.
Goals and objectives
  1. To gain practical knowledge of architectural design by visiting construction sites as well as lectures by those who are in charge of the design/constructions from participating architect practices.
  2. To translate the paperwork into an actual reality, by visiting sites with the design intentions explained.
  3. To gain presentation capability of students’ own work, by being involved in discussions with the architects/designers.
