Language Communication Studies in Engineering

Course content
This course provides an overview of language communication. The course focuses on language theories, experimental findings and various communication models. The course also covers the biological basis of language acquisition and communication. The application of communication theories to engineering will be also discussed. Students are expected to read the assigned readings before the class. They are required to conduct a discourse analysis study and to present on the applications of communication theories in relation to their research. They are encouraged to actively participate in class discussions.
Purpose of class
The course aims to provide an advanced understanding of the core
principles and recent topics of language communication in relation to engineering research,
and to enable students to acquire a specialized and state-of-art knowledge and
understanding of selected aspects by means of a lecture series and a research project.
