Durability Design for Steel Structures

anami kengo
Course content
Main deterioration problems of steel structures such as steel bridges are fatigue. In this class, students can learn the knowledge of durablity design, actual deterioration problem occured in actual steel structures and repair/retrofitting works.
Purpose of class
In order to understand the deterioration mechanism of steel structures (fatigue and corrosion) and obtain new maintenace technology to solve these problem, lectures about (1) basic knowledges of steel structures, such as steel material, joint, (2) deteriaoration mechanism and durability design, and (3)countermeasure will be given in this class. In addition, some case studies for maintenance project will be introduced to understand the actual maintenance process of steel structures especially steel bridges.
Goals and objectives
  1. Understand the detrioration mechanism in steel structures
  2. Understand the durability design in steel structures
  3. Obtain knowledge about the recent project of maintenance project for steel structures
