Course content
This field involves research and development of materials comprising buildings and their construction. A recent main research theme involves “how to ensure quality of building safety and durability.” For example, themes such as the durability of reinforced concrete, the quality of high durability and high-fluidity concrete, the application and commercial viability of nondestructive evaluation techniques on buildings, streamlining of building production, and environmental and material design, among others.
Shifting engineering perspective, students will consider the relationship between materials and construction and culture by tracing historical transitions.
Exercise 1 will be held where students will discuss the results of research with the instructor. This will include: 1. reading of literature: reading of related domestic and foreign literature; 2. presentations at academic societies: data analysis, consideration, and essay writing to present research results, oral presentations, participation in discussions; 3. participation in symposiums, lecture meetings, and workshops etc.; 4. on site observations, visits to laboratories etc.; 5. collecting literature and materials, conducting surveys etc.; 6. seminar retreats.
Special experiments will involve conducting laboratory experiments, on-site and factory experiments etc., followed by electronic processing of experiment data, programming, and presentations etc.
Goals and objectives
  1. For building structural materials or finishing materials, conduct surveys based on past literature and formulate survey and experiment research plans.
  2. Learn to create and propose useful materials for rationalization of construction and construction management, systematization, cost reduction, etc.
  3. Learn the ability to summarize and publish the results obtained by conducting research and experimental research in reports or articles.
Language
Japanese
Class schedule
It is a research field of building materials and building construction deeply involved in building production. Regarding building material research, we will investigate basic properties, applicability, etc. of wood, concrete, steel materials, polymer materials or recycled materials. For construction and construction research, we will investigate construction management (mainly process control, cost control, quality control etc.) and construction management (mainly PM, CM etc.).
Evaluation method and criteria
Students will collect documents and materials, read literature, conduct listening surveys, and participate in society presentations and discussions, participate in symposiums, lecture presentations, workshops, and conduct field study tours, visit laboratories, and participate in seminar camps.
Students will be evaluated based on their awareness of problems, solution abilities, writing of reports and essays, and presentation contents and results etc.
Textbooks and reference materials
Papers published in academic journals and academic conferences.
Prerequisites
Cources related to building materials, concrete engineering, construction methods etc.
