Course description
Lecture on various organic reactions and reagents
Lecture on synthetic pathway (retro-synthesis) for preparation of various organic compounds such as pharmaceutical products
Lecture on stereocontrol of organic reaction
Purpose of class
Many organic compounds such as pharmaceutical chemicals, agricultural chemicals and electronic materials have been prepared through synthetic organic reactions. Purposes of this class are understanding on basic organic reactions, reagents and retro-synthesis analysis for efficient preparation of various organic compounds.
Goals and objectives
  1. Understanding on basic C-C bond forming reactions
  2. Understanding on functionalization of aromatic compounds
  3. Understanding on functionalization of various organic compounds through oxidation and reduction
  4. Understanding on reaction mechanism in rearrangement
  5. Understanding on synthetic scheme

The credit requires over 60% of total scores on the examinations of which include the topics of goals and the objectives.

Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of organic chemistry will be required.
