2 Surveying Practice 1
This course covers the principles of measurements of distances, elevations, and angles. It also includes basic error theory
in measurement and calculations, traverse office calculations, and basic principles of surveying and map-making.
This course introduces the student to the equipments, methodologies, and calculations used in land surveying. The candidate
will study the various types of instrument and record data from the several types of surveys and survey drawings, to be a
land surveyor.
- The student will understand basic principles of measurement, basic error theories in measurement, and basic calculations in
measurement
- The student will be able to design and conduct field surveys
- The student will be able to use instruments in field surveys
- The student will be able to identify the various types of instruments and their appropriate applications

Evaluation method and criteria
The final grade will be composed of “Class participation, Team work and Companionship (50%),” and, ”Final reports (50%)”
Emphasis in the Report submission and evaluation (the Final Exam) will be placed upon
Identification of the proper instrument to be used in a given situation
Accuracy in measurement of quantities from these instruments
Representation of datasheets and maps
