Course description
The flow around a cylinder and the flow in a circular tube are important flow regimes in fluid transport. In this class, we will carry out experiments targeting these flows, observe the flow conditions in detail, such as the state of vortex generation, and measure the velocity distribution and pipe friction coefficient. We also compare the values obtained from theoretical and empirical formulas with experimental data. Throughout the course, you will deepen your understanding of flow phenomena and learn measurement methods and experimental data analysis methods for understanding the flow.
(This class will be held in 2 classes x 7 weeks)
Purpose of class
In this class, we will conduct experiments on the flow around a cylinder and the flow in a circular tube, which are important in fluid transport, and theoretically consider them to deepen our understanding of the phenomena of these flows. The purpose is to acquire the basic knowledge and ability to analyze the phenomenon of flow.
Goals and objectives
  1. To be able to explain about three concrete examples of the flow targeted in this class, along with technically important points and problematic matters.
  2. To be able to utilize the basic knowledge of fluid mechanics and apply it to the task of investigating the actual flow field.
  3. To be able to explain the acquisition and analysis of experimental data and its interpretation based on the basic knowledge of fluid mechanics related to measurement methods and theories.
