Course description
Large scale integrated circuit (LSI) is an electronic circuit integrated on a very small semiconductor chip.
Many LSIs are embedded in electronic systems to provide high speed computation functionality and to implement large capacity storage.
This course introduces the basics of LSI and its design, including the history of LSI technology, LSI design styles, the relation between the LSI design and fabrication process, design automation of LSI, to students taking this course.
Purpose of class
The large scale integrated circuit (LSI) is one of the indispensable key technologies to realize our convenient and comfortable daily life.
Many LSIs are used in electronic devices and systems, mobile phones and smart phones, cars, cloud servers, manufacturing equipment in factories, and so on.
The aim of this course is to help students acquire the basic knowledge about what is LSI and how LSIs with the desired functionality are designed, and understand the basics of LSI design.
Goals and objectives
  1. Recognize what is LSI and understand the standard LSI design flow,
  2. Obtain basic knowledge about the behavioral mechanism and the characteristics of the CMOS circuit which is a major circuit scheme in contemporary digital LSIs,
  3. Understand how electronic circuits are built on an LSI chip,
  4. Understand the basics of LSI layout design automation.
