1 Strength of Materials
When forces are applied to an object, how much of internal forces will occur and how large of deformations will occur? What
is modeled and systematized of them is called Strength of Materials. Strength of Materials is the fundermentals of mechanical
engineering, in particular it's one of essential subjects for engineers. From all structures can be seen on the earth, from
small parts to automobiles and robots, they are designed and manufactured based on the Strength of Materials.
In this lecture, we learn the Strength of Materials about "a beam" which is the simliest structual member.
Understanding of stress and strain which are the most important physical quantities predicting the failure and deformation
of the object, acquiring the ability to correctly calculate the stress, strain, shear force, bending moment generated inside
the beam and predicting the amount of the deformation.
- To calculate stresses and strain of a beam
- To calculate strength of a part
- To determine the size and dimensions of parts in structural design
- To estimate a deformation of beams
