Course description
This course is intended to serve as an introduction seminar. After an orientation and basic computer literacy education, students will be assigned to laboratories where each instructor will teach a small number of students. This seminar is intended to allow students to learn basic knowledge and methods of proving that will be the foundations of studies in all areas of mathematics, and to expose them to a part of a study performed in a laboratory. Each laboratory will have such activities as reading and explaining in turn and simulated practice according to the instructor's field of expertise. At the end of the seminar, students will present the results of their activities. Students will also write a final paper under the guidance of their instructors for submission.
Purpose of class
The purpose of this seminar is to give students some hints on their future studies in mathematics by allowing them to learn basic knowledge that will be the foundations of studies in all areas of mathematics, and by exposing them to a part of study performed in a laboratory.
Goals and objectives
  1. To be able to make accurate proofs based on basic knowledge necessary for studying mathematics at university.
  2. To be able to give an appropriate presentation in mathematics.
  3. To be able to have learning prospect toward a research in mathematics by touching a part of activities performed in laboratories.
