Course content
In science and engineering fields, it is necessary to understand English research articles accurately and to produce written English with clarity. In this course, you will examine good examples of research articles section by section and learn the structure, common grammar and vocabulary typically used in research papers. Then, you apply the knowledge you gained to your own writing. The textbook used in this class is for writing research papers. However, this course will put more emphasis on reading research journal article examples to develop reading skills and to build basic grammatical and structural knowledge needed to write research papers. The class will be conducted mainly in Japanese.
Purpose of class
In science and engineering fields, it is necessary to understand English research articles accurately and to produce written English with clarity. To gain such reading skills and basic research paper writing skills, you will read good examples of research articles and apply your knowledge gained through reading to your own writing.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students can identify grammar and vocabulary frequently used in research articles and understand them
  2. Students can read research journal articles accurately
  3. Students can use basic grammar and vocabulary needed for research paper writing
