Materials Reliability Engineering/Exercise 1

UTSUNOMIYA Takao
Course content
In advanced structures such as aircraft structure, many parts have been manufactured by lightweight metals and composite materials with high specific strength. Therefore, it is important to make clear the mechanical and damage properties of composite/lightweight metal mechanical fastner joint and develop large-scale damage measurement system in the structures.
Also, metal foam is lightweight with high specific strength and high energy absorptivity and is expected to be applied as a multifunctional material in various industrial fields. To promote the practical application of this foam, it is necessary to evaluate the mechanical properties and develop high functional foams.
For the following research themes related to aircraft structures, composite/metal mechanical joints, and light materials such as metal foam, this exercise will approach experimentally and analytically.
(1) Monitoring of mechanical and damage properties of composite/metal fastener joint.
(2) Large-scale remote strain measurement technology in structures.
(3) Fabrication method and high functionality of metal foam.
(4) Mechanical properties evaluation technology for metal foam composite.
Goals and objectives
  1. To analyze and solve the problems on the research themes based on mechanical viewpoints.
  2. To make plans and carry out experimental and analytical method for solving the problems.
  3. To make scientific reports and papers using research results and publish those research results in scientific societies.
