1 Social Infrastructure Management/ Exercise 1
While social infrastructure serves as the foundation for a safe society and economic growth, it is also important to ensure
that infrastructure development and maintenance contribute to a more sustainable society. The Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) provide a framework that lays out the targets which sustainable infrastructure should aim for, but interdisciplinary
research is necessary to address the sustainability challenges facing social infrastructure because many of these issues lay
outside the traditional realm of civil engineering knowledge. Research on social infrastructure management therefore should
contribute to realizing a more sustainable society by improving the management of social infrastructure systems to reflect
a broad diversity of needs.
