Course description
his course contains not only introducing skills/knowledge of academic writing, but also introducing concepts of good research, which is the basis of writing a good academic paper. Lectures are consist of roughly 2 parts: talking about 1) research and 2) writing in which logical/critical thinking, research ethics, methodology as well as skills and knowledge of writing.
Purpose of class
This course intended to expose students to academic/critical thinking, research methods as well as the technical skills of how to write an academic paper, including seminal question such as "why we write an academic paper (why we do research).
Goals and objectives
  1. 1. To understand how social scientists generate our knowledge about the social world, and why we do it the ways we do.
  2. 2. To use & apply theories and frameworks to prolems/issues found in your environment
  3. 3.To understand meaning and its importance of writing an academic paper and know the fundamental theories and frameworks for organizing research ideas.
  4. 4. To know how to use a variety of tools and approaches to assist in your writing
  5. 5. To Develop your own research question(s) and ability to find answers.

4. Research (Searching a theme 2): What we need to do good research? What is "multifaceted thinking"? Work on assignments during and after the lecture, and pre-assignments for next week 190minutes
5. Research (Lit review 1): Why we do lit review? In fact, what we really do for lit review? Work on assignments during and after the lecture, and pre-assignments for next week 190minutes
6. Research (Lit review 2): What is the difference between good and bad literature? Why we avoid using bad literature for our research/writing? Work on assignments during and after the lecture, and pre-assignments for next week 190minutes
7. Research (Methods): What is the definition of good research methods? Are there criterion for research methods? Work on assignments during and after the lecture, and pre-assignments for next week 190minutes
8. Planning for writing a thesis and start to write an "introduction" of your thesis. Work on assignments during and after the lecture, and pre-assignments for next week 190minutes
9. Writing (structure): How the structure of thesis looks like? Why we organize the thesis in that way? Work on assignments during and after the lecture, and pre-assignments for next week 190minutes
10. Writing (sentences 1): What is "good writing" for thesis? What are the 3 clarities of writing - in terms of 1) expression, 2) formality, and 3) logic? Work on assignments during and after the lecture, and pre-assignments for next week 190minutes
11. Writing (sentences 2): What is "good writing" for thesis? What the clarity of writing - in terms 3) logic? Work on assignments during and after the lecture, and pre-assignments for next week 190minutes
