Design of Machine Elements

YOSHIHARA Shouichirou
Course description
In manufacturing, there is a great deal of responsibility for the production of safe and secure products when they are used. Therefore, from the viewpoint of making products that do not break and that can be used safely, we learn the guidelines and methods of design for manufacturing such products. Specifically, many mechanical elements are used in a structure, and if even one of these mechanical elements breaks, the object cannot be used.
Purpose of class
The objectives of this course are as follows
1. to be able to take into account a number of factors when designing, such as ease of construction, ease of use, safety and security.
2.To be able to calculate the design based on the material mechanics.
Goals and objectives
  1. To be able to calculate stresses, taking into account the safety factors and allowable stresses required for design.
  2. To be able to refer to the factors and parameters required for the design from the necessary JIS and other sources and to be able to calculate them using those sources.
  3. To design with function and performance in mind.
Language
Japanese

Evaluation method and criteria
There will be a report (20 points), a mid-term examination (40 points) and a final examination (40 points), for a total of 100 points. The report will be divided into two parts.
Of the 100 points, 60 points will be considered a passing grade. The criterion for the level of passing is that the student is able to refer to the parameters required for design and is able to calculate stresses. In addition, the student should be able to propose a design for the required materials based on function and performance.
Textbooks and reference materials
The following textbooks are planned.
Kawakita and Yabe, Mechanical Engineering Series 7: Machine Design for Students, Asakura Publishing Co. in Japanese
As a reference book, books on mechanical drafting are listed, but students must bring them to class.
