Course description
Students proceed experiments in the fields of mineralogical chemistry and geological mineralogy. Students experience the preparation of thin films of minerals by polishing, the identification of containing mineral by polarized microscopy, composition analysis by chemical analysis using alkali fusion, composition analysis using X-ray diffraction, observation of the geological structure of the field.
Purpose of class
Students learn chemical analysis method of minerals, observation method of minerals, the basic technique of geologic observation method.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students will be able to acquire basic techniques of the mineralogical chemistry and the geological observation.
  2. Students will be able to understand the minerals that make up the earth's crust.
  3. Students will be able to understand geological structure by geological survey.
