Course description
Study characteristic of human and equipment that assist elderly or disabled person. Not only the lecture but practices using the assistive devices are included in the course. Graduates of bio-science and engineering department need not take the course as duplicative lectures have already been done to them.
Purpose of class
The needs for developing and designing the equipment and interfaces that corresponds to the elderly and people with disabilities are increasing, because we are facing an aged society. The objective of this class is to learn characteristics of the elderly and the handicapped person, the specific examples of the assistive devices and the interface for them.
Goals and objectives
  1. Understand fundamental characteristic of bio-mechanics of human body and sense of sight and hearing.
  2. Understand how to apply appropriate assistive devices to the persons who have various characteristics.
  3. Understand kinds of various assistive devices and how to use them.
