Course description
Regional sociology deals with social relationships and daily lives of people living in multi-scaled world. It examines also sociological concepts and theories in relation to the specific situations. This course introduces basic concepts and theories of regional sociology, which may be helpful to tackle the issues such as regional disparities and social exclusions. In the classes, concrete cases will be examined from the multi-scale perspectives.
Purpose of class
The aim of this course is to help students to study various methods and perspectives of regional sociology and to acquire multi-layered comprehensions about issues concerning "community". Students are also expected to gain the skills of finding solutions, in taking account of vulnerability of some people and the diversity among inhabitants, which could lead to more inclusive regional developments.

Evaluation method and criteria
A mini-exam is required to submit after every classes (40%) in addition to the midterm report (30%) as well as the final exam(30%). The final score will be determined by the total amount of points obtained (Passing score = 60 %). In case of a poor attendance (less than 2/3 of all classes), the student will get no credit.
