Course description

Today, many of the postwar social goals have already been achieved, but on the other hand, the circumstances surrounding architecture have changed dramatically. Society is maturing, in other words, the declining birthrate and aging population are progressing worldwide, and there are many contemporary problems such as the increase in vacant houses and the frequent occurrence of marginalized local communities due to reduced tax revenues. Globalization on a global scale has brought convenience to every corner of the world, but on the other hand, the homogenization of residential culture unique to each region is progressing, and traditional residential culture is in danger of disappearing. Furthermore, the urban informal population is expected to double in the next 10 years, and COVID-19 in recent years is forcing a change in the existing habitation patterns themselves.
In light of these various circumstances, this lecture will reconsider the framework and area of planning studies, and will refer to ways to solve the problems surrounding architecture in a sustainable manner while deciphering the diverse relationships between people and architecture in examples from around the world. , explores the path of new architecture, residences and their collections at present and in the future.

Purpose of class

The purpose of this course is to organize and grasp various problems of modern society and to understand how they are related to architecture. In addition, students will learn from world examples the methods required for modern and future architecture, and will be able to think about how to approach individual issues from an architectural planning and design perspective.

Evaluation method and criteria

By exercises (30%) and exams (70%). A total score of 60% or higher is considered passing. Credits will not be granted if attendance is less than 1/3 of the total number of classes.
