Course description
Intellectual Property Law protects intellectual (technical or cultural) creative activities and their results. With technological advances, industrial progress and changes in mode of transaction, this legal field is increasingly important in recent years. This course focuses on the Patent Act and the Copyright Act.

* The classes will be conducted face-to-face in principle.

Purpose of class
The course aims to help students learn an overview of intellectual property law. Students understand rights, judicial precedent, revision, and so on. They apply knowledge obtained, by thinking voluntarily.

Evaluation method and criteria
The allocation of the overall grade for this course is presented below:
・Submission of Documents, etc.: 40%
・Midterm Examination: 30%
・Final Examination: 30%
To pass the course, students must earn at least 60 points of 100. Students can score 60 points or more if they can state in a clear manner their opinions, in assignments and the examinations, about the topics discussed in class and key topics in the textbook.
Students are required to attend at least two-thirds of the total number of classes. If this requirement is not fulfilled, credit will not be awarded.

Prerequisites
・Please be aware of relationship between learning in the department (each student’s major) and intellectual property.
・It is desirable that students who register for this course have gotten credit in the course “Introduction to Jurisprudence” or the course “Civil Law.”
・Please read the syllabus and attend the first class.
・Please prepare an Internet-capable (Wi-Fi-enabled) laptop. On ScombZ, handouts will be distributed and quizzes, etc. will be given.
