Advanced Quantum-Beam Applications

NISHIKAWA Hiroyuki
Course content
The word “quantum” refers to discrete units of matter and energy, such as electron, ions, photons, and neutrons, etc. Our daily lives are surrounded by the quanta in nature, such as photons from the sun and energetic ions in plasma of auroras. If we can produce, extract, and control the quanta as a beam, we can utilize the quantum beam for analysis, fabrication, and even for medical applications.

In this lecture, various techniques for quantum beam applications will be introduced to understand how the advanced technologies have been developed for advanced science, manufacturing industry, and medical applications.
Purpose of class
Quantum beam technologies have been indispensable to our daily things and lives. The purpose of the class is to understand how the advanced technologies have been developed for advanced science, manufacturing industry, and medical applications. Participants of this class can gain basic knowledge to understand and explore the rapidly growing technology areas.
Goals and objectives
  1. Understanding the basic properties of particles, such as photons and charged particles
  2. Understanding the methods to produce and control quantum beams
  3. To demonstrate the knowledge on the techniques used in quantum beam applications
