Course content
Aerosol science and kinetic theory of gases based on the fluid dynamics are very important to study air pollution problems. In this course, the student will learn the basics of fluid dynamics applied in a small domain and the aerosol science. Also, numerical simulation methods for solving the molecular scale behaviors of gases and materials will be introduced. After that, countermeasure to the air pollution problems will be discussed based on these theories. These theories are also applicable to study the physico-chemical process in micro-machining technique such as applied in the manufacturing of semiconductor devices. Applications of these theories on such fields will be also introduced.
Purpose of class
The aim of this course is to consider what we can do to solve environmental problems and energy problems using the knowledge learned in this course.
Goals and objectives
  1. To understand mechanical and chemical behaviors of airborne particles.
  2. To understand gas-phase chemical reactions and the behaviors of gas molecules.
  3. To be able to discuss about concrete way to prevent the air pollution based on the knowlege learned in this lecture.
  4. To be able to discuss about gas-phase chemical reactions in physico-chemical process based on the knowledge learned in this lecture.
