Durability Design for Steel Structures

ANAMI Kengo
Course content
The main deterioration mechanism of structures are fatigue and corrosion. At present, these deteriorations have become apparent in steel structures, especially steel bridges, and have become a social problem. It will be necessary for construction engineer to have the ability to understand these deterioration and implement countermeasures against them.
This lecture introduce the durability design of steel structures, in particular, such as steel bridges, water gates, marine structures, etc. are taken as examples. The class also introduce the current state of deterioration of these structures and the durability design against those deterioration mechanism. Lectures will be given on maintenance methods such as deterioration detection and repair / reinforcement methods, along with the latest technical information. However, the first few lectures will start with lectures on basic information such as the types and properties of steel materials, joining methods such as welding, and fracture mechanics as basic information for understanding the durability design.
Purpose of class
