URIU Daisuke
Course description
・In the first half, students will learn some principles of mechanical drawing (third triangular projection drawing method), which are necessary for product design, by measuring actual products (tableware, electronic equipment, stationery, and furniture) and drawing them by hand.
・In the second half, based on students' own ideas, they will design and draw products by hand, make models based on the drawings, present the drawings and models on presentation boards, and give oral presentation in the end.
・This class is arranged as an introductory class to the elective compulsory courses for production and product design course students, which are arranged in the second term, such as these:
・・In "Practice on Basic Design", students will design and make models of their original designs by sketching, drafting, prototyping, and modeling.
・・In "Practice on Basic Drawing", students will learn mechanical drafting with CAD (Computer Aided Design).
・For this reason, the first half of this subject includes the actual measurement drawing of the "tape dispenser" that will be one of the projects of the second term subject "Practice on Basic Design". What is more, the CAD drawing of the actual measurement drawing of the "tape dispenser" will be carried out in the second term subject "Practice on Basic Drawing". In addition, at the beginning of the second half of this subject, introductory lessons on CAD drafting using "AUTOCAD" will be conducted.
Purpose of class
・The purpose of this class is to learn some principles of mechanical drawing, which are necessary for production and product design course students, through hand-drawn drafting of actual measurement drawings of various kind of products, and drafting, model making, and presentation of original design products.
・Thus, this class is supposed to be introduction to the elective compulsory classes "Practice on Basic Design" and "Practice on Basic Drawing" for production and product design course students, which are arranged in the latter half of the first year.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students will be able to measure various products and draw their actual measurements.
  2. Students will be able to design and draft based on their own ideas and make models.
  3. Students will be able to present their ideas (drafting & models) together on presentation boards.

Evaluation method and criteria
・Grades are evaluated only on the "final project", which are Projects [10][11][12]+Oral Presentation (out of 100), and a score of 60 or higher is passed.
・The final projects (Projects [10][11][12]+Oral Presentation) are evaluated on a four-point scale of "S / A / B / C". Details of the evaluation items and rules are shown separately in "Rubric".
・Submitting all the "weekly projects" (Projects [1] - [13]) is the condition for evaluating the "final projects".
・One point will be deducted from the score of the final projects for each overdue submission of the weekly projects (*).
* However, in the case of unavoidable circumstances, such as poor physical condition or attending close relative's funeral, this rule will nor be applied, on the condition that the student must declare that fact by email before the deadline of the weekly projects and afterward submit a photo of the evidence (doctor's medical certificate, clinic receipt, pharmacy receipt, mourning information, etc.) by email.
