Color Theory

URIU Daisuke
Course description
In this course, students will practically learn about the theory of color related to design activities and the composition of colors. Specifically, they will gain an understanding of the fundamental theories and cultural aspects of color, as well as the mechanisms and characteristics of color expression and reproduction through art materials, printing techniques, and digital media. They will also engage in practical color composition through assignment-based projects.

Emphasis will be placed on hands-on exercises and the creation of artwork, rather than acquiring knowledge through lectures. Various analog and digital tools such as art materials, paints, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, and Processing (visual programming software) will be utilized. To complete assignments, students will need to proficiently use the necessary functions of these tools. However, the course will not provide step-by-step instruction on how to use these tools or teach the basics of programming. Those lacking skills in these areas will be expected to self-learn outside of class hours.
Purpose of class
Students will acquire a foundational understanding of color theory and knowledge, and they will develop the ability to create logical and captivating color compositions through practical artwork production.
