This course introduces formal structures and styles of academic writing to prepare the students for the Usage of Research Tools and Research Writing course with the ultimate aim of making them more confident in their writing abilities. In this course, students will learn about the structure of paragraphs and essay writing, and understand how to formulate them under different contexts such as narrative, process, compare & contrast, cause & effect and argumentative genres.
Exercises will include a variety of writing forms and formats applicable to both academic and general situations. Students will be expected to write extensively, keeping their focus on the ultimate goal of mastering basic academic writing skills. It is also worth bearing in mind that this course is designed for those whose English language proficiency is bettween CEFR B2 and C1 levels.

This course is designed to prepare students for academic writing that includes writing concise paragraphs and essays of different
genres such as descriptions, procedures, compare and contrast, and cause and effect. Students will learn to organize their
main ideas and supporting points logically so as to achieve a clear, succinct, and effective style that can guide the reader
seamlessly.
By putting the principles of effective communication and clear writing into practice, students can establish essential logical strategies and writing skills which will encourage them to engage in any type of writing encountered in their future careers.
