Course description
Digital signal processing is the fundamental technology for image and voice processing, communications, measurement, control or mechatronics. On digital signal processing, analog data was converted to discrete value by sampling and quantization, and then numeric operations are applied on computer or dedicated processor. In this lecture, basics of digital signal processing is introduced for beginners, especially, DFT (discrete Fourier transform), FFT (fast Fourier Transform) and Digital Filter. Hands-on of digital signal processing by using scientific calculation software MATLAB will be held during lecture.
Purpose of class
Students will learn basic digital signal processing and acquire the knowledge necessary for designing signal processing circuits. Students will learn basic numerical calculation of digital signal processing by using MATLAB.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students can understand the basics of digital signal processing (corresponding to lesson plans 1 and 2).
  2. Students can understand discrete Fourier transform and its numerical calculation (corresponding to lesson plans 3-6).
  3. Students can understand the basics of digital filter and the method to design digital filters (corresponding to lesson plans 8-13).

Review Fourier series theory. Try to start to use MATLAB software before starting the lecture.
